Rod Goodman B.Sc., Ph.D., C.Eng., FIET, FIEEE.

Biographical Sketch:

Rod Goodman was born in London England. He received his B.Sc. degree with Honors in Electrical Engineering from Leeds University Yorkshire, UK in 1968, and his Ph.D. in Electronics at the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK in 1976. Dr Goodman is a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Fellow of the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

From 1975 to 1985 Dr Goodman was a member of the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hull, UK.  In 1985 he joined the faculty of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) where he was Professor of Electrical Engineering until 2001. Since then Dr Goodman has been CEO of Gaea Corporation, which provides consulting services on hardware, software, and algorithms in the areas of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Facial Recognition, Ticket Analytics, and Electronic Nose Technology. Dr Goodman holds the positions of Visiting Professor at the University of the West of England , UK, and at the University of Edinburgh , Scotland, UK.

Dr Goodman has expertise in the areas of embedded processing systems, intelligent information processing, VLSI design, neural networks, machine learning algorithms, electronic nose technology, robotics and machine consciousness, swarm systems, distributed sensor communications networks, ad-hoc wireless networks, and alternative power technologies. He has consulted for a wide variety of government and commercial organizations in both the US and the UK, and has been a founder of six advanced technology R&D companies in both the US and the UK. His honors and awards include two NATO Senior Scientist awards, a Research Fellowship of the UK Royal Society, and the 2008 Carnegie Trust Centenary Professorship. Rod Goodman has published over 150 technical papers (his Erdos number is 2) and patents in his areas of expertise. He is also a keen sailor and an accomplished singer, actor, and guitarist.
